OUR HISTORY?

Mothers and Children Multi-Sectoral Development Organization (MCMDO) is an indigenous, nongovernmental, not-for-profit and humanitarian organization founded in 1997. Formerly known as Welfare for the Street Mothers and Children Organization (WeSMCO) was re-named in 2009 due to the broadened thematic areas the organization is increasingly dealing with. The same year MCMDO registered with the Charities and Societies Agency (CSA) as an Ethiopian resident charity with a certificate number 0022.

Since its establishment, MCMDO has completed 130 projects and 23 projects are currently under implementation. MCMDO works in all regions in Ethiopia, except Afar Region. Efforts are being made to initiate projects in Afar region as well. For the last 20 years of service, MCMDO has reached and benefited more than six million beneficiaries.

The projects fall under the seven prime thematic areas of MCMDO i.e. health, education, women empowerment, climate change and environmental protection, WaSH, nutrition, and food security & livelihoods. In all its implementation areas, MCMDO works closely with the relevant government offices at all levels; i.e. at federal, regional woreda and Kebele levels.

MCMDO’s head office is located in Addis Ababa and has 20 branch/coordination offices in Ethiopian Somali, Gambella, Addis Ababa, Amhara, Oromia, Tigray, Dire Dawa, Harar and Benishangul Gumuz regions. The organization has 230 devoted and experienced permanent and project staffs. The staff qualification ranges from MA to Diploma. Logistics wise, the organization has ten 10-wheel drive vehicles, one tractor and 24 motor cycles used to implement project activities. It has also a well-organized and structured system that facilitates the day to day activities of the organization.
